In a statement issued by North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) today, Chandolia and NDMC's Standing Committee Chairman Mohan Bhardwaj criticised the former Dikshit government for issuing provisional certificates to unauthorised colonies "in a haste without providing basic amenities as submitted by the CAG."
"Chandolia and Bhardwaj have termed this action of the former Delhi government a political fraud and demand that a criminal case be registered against the then Congress government leaders for misleading the public in declaring the unauthorised colonies as authorised," the BJP-led NDMC said in the statement.
He also reiterated his demand of municipal corporations being given the responsibilities of doing development work in these areas along with the transfer of funds earmarked for the same.
Chandolia noted that the municipal corporations have the required men, material and machinery for the development of unauthorised colonies.
The Mayor claimed that the Delhi Government has spent more than Rs 3,000 crore during 2007-13 on the "so-called development works" in the unauthorised colonies, but the end result of the expenditure is nothing but a "wastage" as the works related to roads and drainage were "incomplete in nearly half of the 895 unauthorised colonies."
"The then government spent crore of rupees in the name of development of these colonies. But still don't have the basic amenities such as sewage, drinking water and sanitation," the Mayor said.
"The sad part of the whole political gimmick of the Congress is that the works initiated have been left incomplete or never initiated. We demand that corporations be given the responsibility of carrying out the development work in these colonies and adequate funds be transferred for the same," the statement said.
