Reliance 1 snatched a four-run win over Indian Oil in a tight Group-D league match to ensure a berth in the quarter-finals of the Rs 12-lakh prize money All India D Y Patil T20 tournament today in Navi Mumbai.
In a Group A league game, opener Mansingh Nigde's unbeaten half century steered Jain Irrigation to an eight- wicket win over Andhra Bank, for their second consecutive win which has assured them of a place in the quarter-final round.
They had defeated hosts and defending champions D Y Patil by four wickets yesterday.
Asked to bat first by Indian Oil, Reliance put up a modest total of 137 for 8 from their full quota of 20 overs with Apurv Wankhede (38 in 27 balls with 3 sixes) and Rakesh Solanki (30 in 38 balls) being the leading scorers at the D Y Patil Stadium.
For Indian Oil, Abbas Ali bowled an economical spell of 2 for 6 from two overs and was supported by Balwinder Singh Sandhu Jr (2 for 35) and Amit Yadav (2 for 22).
Indian Oil started the chase in right earnest and were very much in the hunt of their target, but Reliance bowlers and fielders held their nerves in the end to grab a win.
Skipper Aditya Tare led Indian Oil with a gritty knock of 40 runs from 23 balls and along with opener Paresh Patel, who made 43 runs from 51 balls, put up a third wicket stand of 67 runs from 48 balls to take their score to 125.
But after Tare was run out in the 19th over they lost the next four wickets for the addition of just eight runs and finished on the losing side.
Rahul Shukla took three for 38 from his four overs and Jaspreet Bumra picked up two for 16 to seal the win, their second of the competition.
In the other game, put in to bat by Jain Irrigation, Andhra Bank were bundled out for 111 in 19.4 overs. D B Ravi Teja (36), G.H. Vihari (22) and Amol Shinde (18) were the only batsmen to get some runs for the Andhra side.
Azhar Ansari (3/14) and Lukman Meriwala (3/27) were the pick of the bowlers for Jain Irrigation.
Later, Nigde (51 off 46 balls), Shivrang Kapse (39), Abhishek Raut (18) batted positively as Jain Irrigation coasted to victory.
