Relief from heat in north; light rain in Rajasthan

Day temperatures hovered above the normal level in most parts of north India today though the mercury dipped marginally in some areas including Delhi.
A day after moderate rains lashed the national capital, overcast sky kept the temperature at comfortable levels.
According to the MeT department, the day temperature was recorded at 34.5 degrees Celsius which was one notch above normal for this part of the season, while the minimum settled at 26 degrees.
The national capital received 6.8 mm rainfall till 8:30 AM today, the MeT department said.
Due to yesterday's showers, the humidity levels shot up and were recorded between 62 and 87 per cent during the day.

Despite the rain, the maximum temperature had yesterday settled three notches above the normal at 37.2 degrees Celsius and the minimum was recorded at 28.4 degrees.

In the desert state of Rajasthan, light to moderate rains occurred at isolated places. Kotkasim (Alwar district) and Chirawa (Jhunjhunu district) recording the state's maximum rainfall at 6-cm since last night.
Mercury plummeted at most places by one to three degrees Celsius due to monsoon activity in the entire state, with the maximum settling at 38.5 degrees Celsius in Jaisalmer and Barmer.
Chattargarh recorded rainfall of 5-cm; followed by Lavan, Laxminagar, Khajuwala, Rawatsar, Pokharan 3-cm each; and Nagal, Rajawat, Nagar and Bharatpur 2-cm each. Several others areas in the state also received rainfall.

Hot weather conditions continued to prevail in Punjab and Haryana with the maximum temperatures hovering above normal levels in both the states.
In the Union Territory of Chandigarh, the maximum settled at 35.8 degrees Celsius, three notches above normal. Ambala and Karnal in Haryana recorded maximums at 34.7 and 34.2 degrees Celsius, respectively. Bhiwani and Hisar had a high of 34.4 and 36 degrees Celsius.
In Punjab, Ludhiana and Patiala recoded mercury at 34.7 and 35.4 degrees Celsius while Amritsar recorded a high of 34.6 degrees.
