Children of a government remand home at Ara town of Bhojpur district had to resort to a hunger strike to get their demands met.
Altogether 40 juvenile inmates of the home began a hunger strike this morning over problems like supply of contaminated drinking water to them, lack of utensils, erratic use of generator during power cuts, and non-availability of ambulance within the campus, Sadar Sub Divisional Officer Anil Kumar said.
As officials reached the home after hearing the news, the children told them about the problems, including how the generator was run on the whims and fancies of the caretaker during the peak summer season.
"I personally met the children and talked to them. I assured them that the administration will give due consideration to their demands," Kumar said.
Following the SDO's assurance, the children called off their agitation at around 2.30 PM.
The remand home houses 55 juvenile inmates.
