Haryana Governor Jagannath Pahadia today called upon people to remember sacrifices made by martyrs and freedom fighters and take a pledge of patriotism and courage to realise their dreams.
Pahadia was addressing a gathering at an Independence Day function in Kurukshetra today where he unfurled the national flag and paid homage to martyrs of the country's freedom struggle.
Greeting people on the occasion, he said, "our freedom movement was epitomised by Mahatma Gandhi's movement of non-violence. Later our great visionary leaders harnessed our constructive and liberating urge for freedom, national unity and nation building."
Pahadia praised the contribution of soldiers, scientists, farmers and workers whose hard work and skills made India a prosperous nation in all fields of development and said, every Indian has contributed significantly in this glorious journey of peace and progress.
He urged people to rise above narrow feelings of caste, creed and religion and make India a developed nation.
The Governor said Haryana was strengthening the country's economy through its progressive social and economic policies and programmes and has made phenomenal progress in the fields of agriculture, power, drinking water, education, industries, software, information technology, health and social welfare.
