Kalyani University Vice Chancellor Rattan Lal Hangloo today said his resignation is "a closed chapter."
"My resignation is a closed chapter now and I should respect the sentiment of the teachers and students," Hangloo told reporters after addressing students of the University at the Vidyasagar Hall.
"I am not against politics. All students should be conscious about politics, but should not be politicised," he said in his address.
The VC replied to various questions of the students related to late publication of results, problems in laboratories and other issues after his speech and said "I don't believe in agitations, meet us to talk."
A large number of students and teachers had met Hangloo yesterday appealing him not to resign and the VC had said he would meet them today.
The Vidyasagar Hall was packed with students during Hangloo's address and many were seen sitting on the ground due to lack of chairs.
Hangloo had faxed his resignation to Governor K N Tripathi, also the Chancellor of the University, on October 1 after a night-long gherao by students protesting against tuition fee hike. The Governor, however, did not accept his resignation.
Hangloo sent his resignation to the Governor for the second time on Monday even as the varsity authorities decided to revoke the fee hike decision.
