Participating in a discussion on the resolution under Rule 185, Minister for Urban Development Firhad Hakim wondered why Muslims as a group were being called terrorists.
"Not all Muslims are terrorists. There has been a growing tendency to dub Muslims as terrorists," he observed.
He blamed a particular party aided by a media company for the character assassination and observed that culture and traditions of West Bengal cannot be destroyed.
"It is a land of Rabindranath Tagore and Kazi Nazrul Islam. Hindus and Muslims are two flowers," he said.
With the BJP attacking the state government over the Burdwan blast, Hakim said the Modi government had failed to prevent infiltration across the international border.
"Where is the vigil across the border? What the BSF is doing?" he asked and added "Why the state would be blamed for the failure of the Centre to do its job properly" in checking the infiltration from across the border.
The resolution was moved by West Bengal education minister Partha Chatterjee, Leader of Opposition Surya Kanta Mishra of the CPI(M), Gyan Singh Sohan Pal of Congress and some other TMC, Left and Congress members.
