The district administration asked the Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BMC) authorities to take steps to check the sale of 'gup-chup' in the town.
The action was taken by the district administration after spread of jaundice in Cuttack and Sambalpur cities. A meeting was held here to review measures taken to prevent the water-borne disease in Berhampur.
"Jaundice spreads through contaminated water. The water used for the preparation of street foods like gup-chup is likely contaminated and there is a need to check these foods," District Collector P C Chaudhary said.
The civic authorities would also create awareness on the harm of consuming street food and asked the residents to use boiled water for drinking purpose.
