Restrictions around Geelani's house lifted: Hurriyat

Restrictions imposed around the house of hardline Hurriyat Conference chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani have been lifted, the amalgam said today, even as the police said the leader was never put under house arrest.
"In an unexpected development, the restrictions (around Geelani's residence) were lifted around 9:30 pm last night. All Policemen deployed at the residence were withdrawn," the faction's spokesperson Ayaz Akbar said.
A police spokesperson, however, said, "Geelani was never put under house arrest."
Akbar said the 84-year-old leader will resume political activities with a public meeting in his hometown Sopore on November 1.
