Lieutenant Colonel (retd) Devendra Pratap Singh, a descendant of famous Hindi writer Raja Lakshman Singh, shot himself in the neck with a double barrel gun at his ancestral family mansion, Peeli Kothi in Wazirpura locality of the city yesterday, police said.
His relatives told the police that they heard the sound of gunfire in the afternoon and, when they rushed to the first floor room of the colonel, they found him lying in a pool of blood.
Police has taken custody of the suicide weapon.
The colonel had no children and had been living in a state of depression ever since his wife died a few years ago, according to his relatives.
