Police said Tamilarasan (59) was returning home from his native village Madakottam on a bike when he was hacked to death by the duo who followed him on a motorcyle.
They said the helmeted riders first rammed their bike onto that of Tamilarasan, knocking him down and then hacked him to death.
Police suspect that a land dispute between Tamilarasan and others in his native village could be the reason for the murder.
Police said an alert had been sounded at all checkposts and airports as there was information that the duo planned to flee the country after the murder.
