Retired employee booked for embezzling Rs 1.44 cr worth wheat

Police today booked a retired employee of state-run civil supplies agency for allegedly embezzling wheat worth Rs 1.44 crore.
Mulkh Raj, who was the in-charge of wheat storage centre at Jalandhar in 2012-13 and had retired in March this year, allegedly embezzled 14,271 bags of wheat worth Rs 1.44 crore during his tenure, police said.
A case was registered against him on the complaint of Punjab State Civil Supplies Corporation (Punsup) District Manager under different sections of IPC and Prevention of Corruption Act, police said, adding that Raj was on the run.
