Hoping that Narendra Modi government will generate a positive atmosphere and open new vistas for the displaced Kashmiri Pandits, Panun Kashmir today said the return of the community to the state was a political issue and should be dealt politically.
"We sincerely hope the new government to generate a positive atmosphere and also open new vistas for the displaced minority community of Kashmir. The return of Kashmiri Pandits is a pure political issue and needs to be dealt politically," President of Panun Kashmir, an organisation of Kashmiri Pandits, Ashwani Kumar Chrungoo told reporters here.
He said time had come to address the geo-political aspirations of the displaced Kashmiri Pandits for which the new government needed to open direct dialogue with genuine representatives of the community.
"As a confidence-building measure the government should immediately take up the issue of encroachment of Kashmiri Pandit properties and temples in Kashmir and announce special job package for the youth and also compensation for the average youth of the community," he said.
He said the socio-political conditions that existed in Kashmir at the time of the exodus had not changed much since.
There is no gainsaying that the previous governments had done precious little in addressing the humanitarian and political issues concerning the community, he alleged.
The recommendations of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Home Affairs were never allowed to be implemented in letter and spirit by the politico-administrative set-up of the state, Chrungoo alleged.
Even the Union Home Ministry was never sincere and focused towards addressing the sufferings of the displaced community, he alleged further.
