Revenue of Mdu rly division increased to Rs 552.11 cr

: The revenue of Madurai divisional Railway has increased from Rs 529.11 crore to to Rs 552.11 Crore this year till January, a senior railway official said.
Addressing the 67th Republic day celebrations,divisional Railway Manager Sunil Kumar Garg said passenger traffic revenue touched Rs 324.48 crore against Rs 309.03 crore last year.
He said new sections and trains, special trains, augmentation of coaches and new initiatives have contributed to achieving positive growth in passenger earnings.
Garg said six Limited Use Subways have been constructed in Trichy- Manamadurai-Virudunagar-Tenkasi sections.
As part of green initiative, 921 LED 7 watt bulbs were distributed to the Railway employees this fiscal. The swach bharat was a great success in South tamilnadu,he said.
Earlier he told reporters that division was taking all efforts to implement doubling of track between madurai and Kanyakumari by raising extra budgetry fund.
He said there was a plan to extend Egmore-Manamadurai Silambu express to shencottah via aruppukottai.A proposal to extend the Thiruvananthapuram-Palakad express train to dindigul via pollachi and Palani had been submitted.
Track doubling work between tiruchi and manaparai had been completed and was awaiting clearance of the safety commissioner. Simultaneously track doubling work between Dindigul and Manaparai was also going on.
"We are now trying to raise funds from Extra Budgetary resources for completing the project from Maduri to tuticorin viaz.Virudhunagar Vandhimaniyachi, he said.
