Rioting in Hyderabad: 23 arrested

23 persons were today arrested in connection with the communal clashes that broke out in Kishanbagh in Old City area yesterday, while Governor ordered a magisterial probe into the police firing that left three persons dead.
A special investigation team has been formed to probe the violence and the role of the accused, police sources said.
Ten cases have been registered. 23 persons have been arrested so far. They were produced before the court and remanded in judicial custody, Rajendranagar police station sources said.
An uneasy calm prevailed in Kishanbagh area as curfew continued today following yesterday's clashes between members of two communities.
Andhra Pradesh Governor earlier today ordered a magisterial inquiry into the police firing that left three persons dead.
Rioting in Sikh Chavani and Arsh Mahal areas yesterday was sparked off by alleged burning of a religious flag, leading to a curfew under Rajendranagar police station limits.
Seventeen people, including policemen, were injured in heavy stone pelting.
The curfew will be in force till 10 AM on Saturday. No untoward incidents were reported today, Cyberabad Joint Commissioner of Police Y Gangadhar told PTI.
Governor ESL Narasimhan, who reviewed the situation, also announced ex-gratia of Rs six lakh each to the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 each to those injured, besides free medical treatment.
