Ruling JD(U) got a shot in arm today with an RJD MLA coming to its fold amid indications that he would be fielded from the Kishanganj Lok Sabha seat.
RJD MLA Akhtarul Iman joined JD(U) in the presence of state party chief Basistha Narayan Singh and ministers Vijay Chaudhary and Bijendra Yadav at JD(U) headquarters here.
Iman, MLA from Kochadham in Kisanganj district, was among the 13 legislators of Lalu Prasad who had written to Speaker about quitting the party. He was among the four having not turned up for the legislature party meeting attended by Prasad himself.
Iman said he left RJD because it had 'digressed' from the path of social justice and adopted the ideology of Congress after tie-up with it.
He praised Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for fighting against communal forces and his strong opposition to BJP Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi who bore the 'taint' mark for 2002 Godhra riots.
"His (Nitish Kumar) name ranks first among people fighting against communal forces represented by Narendra Modi)," he said.
Iman said he was inspired by the non-Congress and non-BJP Front created by Kumar and other leaders and decided to join the JD(U).
Iman, in all likelihood, would be the JD(U) candidate from minority-dominated Kisanganj Lok Sabha seat. Congress has renominated Maulana Asarul Haque while BJP has fielded MLC Dileep Jaiswal.
