In April, the public transporter carried 42.96 million tonnes of coal and generated a revenue of Rs 3,420.74 crore, a statement issued by the Railways said today.
Of the total earnings of Rs 7,477.30 crore, Rs 604.13 crore came from 8.90 million tonnes of iron ore transported for exports, to steel plants and to other domestic users and Rs 748.94 crore from transporting 9.27 million tonnes of cement, it said.
During the period, Railways also earned Rs 729.94 crore from transporting 4.62 million tonnes of food grains, Rs 426.18 crore from 3.33 million tonnes of petroleum oil and lubricant and Rs 435.08 crore from 2.72 million tonnes of Pig iron and finished steel from steel plants and other points, the statement said.
