Road built at Punjab Minister's behest demolished

A new road built at the behest of Punjab Technical Education Minister Charanjit Singh Channi outside his official bungalow here was demoloshed by civic authorities today as it was allegedly constructed illegally on a green belt.
Media reports claimed an astrologer had told Channi that an east-facing entry to his house would bring him good luck.
However, no permission was sought to build the road from the Chandigarh Administration.
The city's municipal corporation used heavy machines today to demolish the road.
The inter-locking paver blocks were also taken away during the drive which was carried out in the presence of several officials of the administration and local police.

Officials said the road was built on the green belt without permission.
Channi was not available for comments and sidestepped queries by the media when he was asked to respond to the issue on the sidelines of a cabinet meeting here.
