The tribunal directed United India Insurance Company Ltd, insurer of the offending bus, to pay Rs 27,21,700 as compensation to the wife, mother and daughter of Samunder Singh, who died in the accident in May 2012.
"The entire criminal record of the case further supports and corroborates the case of the petitioners. No ill will can be imputed on the evidence of eye witness, who is an independent person.
According to the petition, on May 6, 2012, Samunder met with an accident with a DTC bus being driven in a rash and negligent manner and came under the rear wheel of the vehicle. His head got crushed and he died on the spot.
The plea had submitted that Samunder was employed as driver in Haryana Roadways on a monthly income of Rs 14,000.
All three respondents --Delhi Transport Corporation, the bus driver and the insurance company-- through written statements, had denied the rashness on the part of the driver and claimed the contents of the petition were false.
