Four men died in as many road accidents during Holi celebrations in the national capital, police said today.
The first mishap was reported at around 10.30 AM in the Kanjhawla area of Outer Delhi in which a 50-year-old man died as he fell from his motorbike after losing control.
Hours later, a similar incident occurred near the Delhi Secretariat in which a 43-year-old biker lost his life, a senior police official said.
In the two other incidents, two pedestrians died after allegedly being hit by speeding cars.
While the first such incident was reported in north-west Delhi's Swaroop Nagar area at around 12.30 PM, the second was reported in the evening in Outer Delhi's Sultanpuri, a senior official said.
The driver involved in the first hit-and-run mishap has been arrested, but the second case remains unsolved, the official said.
On the evening before Holi, a woman lost her life after the two-wheeler on which she was riding pillion hit a Metro pillar on central Delhi's Panchkuian Road.
Police, meanwhile, said that the Holi this year saw the lowest figure for fatal accidents for five years.
Last year, eight fatal accidents were reported while 11 persons lost their lives in road mishaps the year prior to that. While 14 road accident fatalities were reported in 2013, 13 occurred in 2012.
As many as 5,000 Delhi Police officials, including 2,500 traffic police personnel, were deployed across the national capital as part of special arrangements for Holi this year.
