Shyam Sunder Sharma was last night killed by unidentified persons when he tried to resist their robbery bid, they said, adding the accused took away Rs 3.5 lakh cash and ornaments kept for the marriage of Sharma's daughter after killing him.
Senior Superintendent of Police H N Singh said the robbers attacked the house in Krishna Kunj colony when Sharma was alone at home and they hit his head on a wall several times leading to his death on the spot.
"We are probing the case from all angles. Sharma's wife had set afire herself to commit suicide six years ago," he said.
The body has been sent for postmortem and an FIR has been registered on the charge of loot and murder against unidentified assailants, the SSP said.
