The model-turned-actress, who made her big screen debut in "Transformers: Dark of the Moon" last year, will star in the action movie which is directed by George Miller, reported Contactmusic.

Hardy has grown a bushy beard to portray the titular character, Max Rockatansky, and Theron recently shaved her hair into a short crop to play Furiosa.

"I feel like the original 'Mad Max' created such a vivid world, that to go back and re-imagine it and kind of replay in that sandbox sounds like fun to me. George really created a female character that I've never read anything like this. I mean, I'm scared," Theron said.

The movie also stars Zoe Kravitz, Riley Keogh and Adelaide Clemens.

"Mad Max: Fury Road" is due to start shooting in the summer after a two year delay because of production setbacks.
