Two days after strongly recommending Sambalpur as the venue of the proposed Indian Institute of Management (IIM), the state government today decided to locate the second campus of Xavier Institute of Management (XIM) at Rourkela.
This was decided at a high level meeting chaired by chief minister Naveen Patnaik and attended by senior government officials, managing director of RSP and authorities of the XIM, Bhubaneswar, a release issued by the chief minister's office said.
"The Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) has assured to provide all required support to the proposed second campus of the XIM in the steel city," it said.
The state government's decision in this regard was significant as the people of Rourkela under the leadership of BJP MLA Dilip Ray had been agitating to locate the IIM in their place instead of Sambalpur.
Ray said that Rourkela meets all the criteria to locate the IIM. However, in a bid to pacify the agitation, the state government took a decision to locate the XIM in the steel city, sources said.
