The authorities of Birsa Munda jail have conducted a routine check in the hospital ward of jailed RJD supremo Lalu Prasad at the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIIMS) here, a senior police official said Monday.

The routine check took place on Saturday evening, Deputy Superintendent of Police Deepak Kumar Pandey confirmed.

Prasad, who is serving prison term following his conviction in fodder scam cases, is undergoing treatment at the RIIMS for various ailments.

"It was a routine check and not raids. We did not find anything objectionable during our check," he told PTI.

Asked whether there are any fresh instructions following the routine check, he said those were related to security matters and cannot be disclosed.

Pandey said only three persons can visit an inmate on Saturdays as per the jail manual with the permission of the authorities.

NCP national general secretary D P Tripathi and Congress leader Tariq Anwar had met Lalu Prasad separately on Saturday.

Several leaders like dissident BJP leader Shatrughan Sinha, Congress leaders Shakeel Ahmed and Subodh Kant Sahay, JMM working president Hemant Soren, former Bihar chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi, besides Lalu Prasads sons Tejashwi Yadav and Tej Pratap had visited Lalu Prasad.

Pandey had in January denied reports of any security threat to Lalu Prasad at the paying ward of the RIIMS.
