Rs 1 cr worth brown sugar seized, man arrested

: A man has been arrested by Excise officials at Naduvannur in the district in connection with seizure of about 951 gms of brown sugar worth about Rs one crore, police said.
They said a youth had given the packet to one Jerish, returning to Kuwait after his leave, to be handed over to a man at Kuwait.
However, Jerish left behind the packet at his house as it was heavy and on reaching Kuwait, started receiving threat calls for not bringing it with him, they said.
Growing suspicious, he informed his relatives and friends who opened the packet and found the contraband concealed in the pockets of the jeans.

Later, one Rasiq of Malappuram district called them over phone and demanded that the packet be handed over to him. they told him to come to a shop and collect it and nabbed him when he arrived there and handed him over to Excise Officials.
