Women and Child Development Minister Krishna Tirath also said the Protection of Women against Sexual Harassment at Workplace Bill which has been passed by Lok Sabha, will come up for discussion in Rajya Sabha in the upcoming Budget session starting next month.
"The Ministry has made a provision of around Rs 100 crore per annum from 2013 onwards for appointment of protection officers who can exclusively work towards implementation of the PWDVA for the 12th Plan period," Tirath said at the Sixth National Conference on Implementation of PWDVA, 2005 here.
She said her Ministry will be assisting state governments in funding for two protection officers and two service providers in districts and for office equipment and one protection officer exclusively at sub-divisional level in 100 vulnerable districts.
The minister said one cannot assume that the work is done after the enactment of laws and insisted that their proper implementation remained a major concern.
"We cannot only enact new laws and think that our work is done. To make the laws a reality for the women of India, it is our duty and responsibility to go further. We have to ensure the implementation of the laws, hence it is necessary to continually monitor the law and find it is actually meaningful for the lives of the women for whom it was meant," she said.
Tirath also mentioned that it was important to see whether the state governments have made provisions to make the law a reality.
On the Protection of Women against Sexual Harassment at Workplace Bill, she expressed hope that the legislation will be cleared in the upcoming budget session. (More)
