Election Commission officials today seized cash to the tune of Rs 45 lakh, all in the denominations of the scrapped Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 currency notes, from a car in Muthialpet near here.
The driver of the car was taken into custody for questioning, District Collector-cum-District Election officer Satyendra Singh Dursawat told PTI.
The model code of conduct is in force in Puducherry after the announcement of bypoll to the Nellithope assembly constituency, from where senior Congress leader and Chief Minister V Narayanasamy is seeking mandate.
The bypoll is scheduled for November 19.
