The resignation of new nominated member of Rajya Sabha Pranav Pandya has been accepted by Rajya Sabha Chairman Hamid Ansari.
Pandya, the seventh person to be nominated by the Narendra Modi government to Rajya Sabha, was resigned on May 6, two days after his nomination.
"Pranav Pandya, a nominated member of the Council of States (Rajya Sabha) resigned his seat in the Rajya Sabha and his resignation has been accepted by the Chairman, Rajya Sabha with effect from May 11, 2016," said a gazette notification issued by Rajya Sabha Secretary General Shumsher K Sheriff.
Pandya, head of All World Gayatri Pariwar, spurned the honour saying atmosphere in the Upper House was not conducive for him.
"I don't think the atmosphere in Rajya Sabha is conducive for me. It will never be," he had said, giving reasons for his refusal to accept the nomination.
65-year-old Pandya, an MD in Medicine, was nominated to the Rajya Sabha on May 4 by President Pranab Mukherjee following a recommendation of the government.
On April 22, the government had nominated Subramanian Swamy, Narendra Jadhav, Navjot Singh Sidhu, Suresh Gopi, Swapan Dasgupta and Mary Kom as the new Rajya Sabha members. All of them have already taken oath as member of the Upper House.
