Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today alleged that RSS is trying to create "discord" in the state in view of the forthcoming Assembly polls, but the government will foil any such attempt.
"RSS is trying tacitly to sow the seeds of discord in Assamese society, which was moulded and shaped by the philosophy of Srimanta Sankardeva and Ajan Fakir. We are committed to build a Modern Assam based on the edifice laid by these saints.
While Srimanta Sankardeva was a 15th century social reformer of Assam, Ajan Fakir was a 17th century preacher.
The state government machinery is on its toes to foil any activity, which is not in conformity with the teachings of the two, Gogoi said in a statement.
RSS Chief Mohan Bhagawat visited Assam twice recently, primarily to polarise the otherwise peaceful ambiance of Assam, he added.
Gogoi said he is ready for the Assembly elections, which the BJP has termed as the Battle of Saraighat, and the saffron party will be vanquished from the state.
"The elections will be a showdown between me and Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the NDA government's failure on all fronts and its anti-people and anti-poor policies will be my main poll planks," he said.
"Visits of the Central ministers are aimed at hoodwinking the people and divert their attention from the failure of the Central Government," he said.
Gogoi also asked the BJP to ask for the mandate of the people based on promises and activities, and not by any means which have the potential to create rift in the society .
