With one-year in the office today, the ruling BJP government in Goa has admitted that corruption exists at various levels in the administration, causing resentment amongst the people but vowed to make efforts to eradicate the menace.
State Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) Executive Committee, which met here last evening, said the party-led Government in Goa will have to come down heavily on corrupt elements in the administration and check the menace.
The State BJP leadership met on the eve of Manohar Parrikar-led Government completing one year in office.
"Being a party with difference, it is admitted that at various levels of administration the old habit of corrupt practices, cultivated during Congress regime, still persists, about which there will be understandable resentment amongst the people," a resolution passed at the meeting said.
"The Government will have to come down on ill-doers with a heavy hand in its effort to wipe out this menace affecting administration by finding quicker ways and means."
In yet another resolution, the party condemned "non- cooperative" attitude of the Congress-led UPA Government at the Centre in solving the mining issue.
"The non-cooperative attitude of the Union Government in solving the mining issue is further compounding the mining woes of our state," it said.
The resolution demanded that the Centre come forward to give financial aid to the working class in the mining industry, mainstay of Goa's economy along with tourism.
Mining activities have been on hold in Goa for the last several months following the directives of the Supreme Court which is awaiting a report of Central Empowered Committee (CEC) that is probing illegalities in the key sector.
