Rural bank official gets 4 years RI in bribery case in MP

A special court here has awarded four years rigorous imprisonment to a rural bank official for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 from a farmer in 2011.
Special judge Tripti Sharma yesterday sentenced the then manager of Satpuda-Narmada Regional Rural bank, Phoolchand Koshta, to a prison term of four years and also slapped a fine of Rs 5,000 on him, Deputy Director Prosecution Rameshwar Kumre said.
Koshta had demanded a bribe of Rs 10,000 from a farmer for renewing her 'Kisan credit card', he said.
Acting on a complaint, Lokayukta sleuths had laid a trap and Koshta was caught taking a bribe of Rs 5,000 on November 26, 2011, Kumre said.

He was booked under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
In case the convict fails to pay the fine, he would have to undergo an additional one-year imprisonment, the prosecution said.
