Russian authorities say six suspected insurgents have been killed in a raid in the capital of the Dagestan republic.
Police initially said that two suspected rebels were killed in today's operation at an apartment building in Makhachkala, but the National Anti-Terrorist Committee later said another four were killed when police searched other apartments in the building.
A committee statement said those killed were suspected in an array of terrorist actions, including attacks on police.
For more than a decade, Dagestan has been hit with bombings, attacks on police and kidnappings blamed on Islamic militants.
