The man who had adopted Indian name and was identified as Giriraj Rama, was staying in the city for the last few months for artificial limb fitment, police said.
The hotel staff found him lying unconscious this morning following which they informed police.
"He used to move around with the help of hotel staff. He did not order dinner last night, and was found dead in the room today," police said.
"He was under the influence of Indian spirituality and had adopted Indian name," police said.
Police have not ruled out the possibility of a suicide.
The body has been shifted to SMS government hospital and US embassy officials in Delhi have been informed about the death, they said.
