Music streaming app Saavn expects its user base to touch 25 million by December this year on the back of strong smartphone adoption in the country and launch of its services on the Windows 10 platform.
Backed by investors like Tiger Global and Quilvest, Saavn currently has about 17 million monthly active users, of which 14 million are in India.
"Smartphone sales are booming and we have seen similar trends in our user base. There has been a 3 times increase in streaming on our platform and this will only grow as more people come online," Saavn Global Chief Operating Officer Mahesh Narayanan told PTI.
He added that the company has about 17 million monthly active users worldwide and the number is expected to grow to 20-25 million by December-end.
Talking about the new app for the recently launched Windows 10 operating system, Narayanan said Windows leads the market for desktop operating systems with more than a billion PCs running on it today.
"With Saavn now coming on Windows , we will have a much larger audience of desktops and tablets. Using the app, consumers will have access to over 10 million tracks across 11 languages," he said.
Music listeners on Windows 10 will have access to Saavn's core products and features, including phonetic search and dynamic bit-rate streaming.
The mobile app will be available when Microsoft makes Windows 10 available for smartphones later in the year.
Additional features will be launched in the coming months, including Saavn Social features (Tag, Chat, Follow and Share), Saavn Radio, and Saavn Pro, for online and offline listening.
Last month, Saavn closed a USD 100 million (about Rs 634 crore) funding round, led by Tiger Global Management. It had said the capital would be used to drive long-term product development and aggressive customer acquisition.
Previously, Saavn had raised about USD 10 million in two rounds of funding.
