Doctors and activists today voiced their dissent over the "high-handedness" of the management of a private hospital here in sacking a doctor for allegedly failing to generate enough resources from the patients for the institution.
Dr Rina Bhatia, the head of the St Stephen's hospital's psychiatry department, was allegedly sacked for not being able to generate enough money for it.
"The hospital sacked me saying I am not generating enough money from my patient services? Did anybody tell me I have to generate money?" Bhatia said at a press conference today.
Responding to the issue, activist Dr Imrana Qadeer said it was to be studied as to why the hospital had suddenly stepped into this financial crisis that it wanted its doctors to raise money for it.
Bhatia said she has already filed a writ petition against her sacking and, if required, would approach the Indian Medical Association as well.
Activist and Chairperson of Centre for Social Medicine and Community Health, Dr Ritu Priya, said, "It is important to protect Stephen's (hospital) from being commercialised.
