A modern bus terminus is being developed at a cost of Rs 13 crore at Ainthapali area of Sambalpur to cater to the needs of the residents of the city in particular and people in the entire western Odisha.
A target has been set to complete the construction work of the proposed terminus by February 2015, Sambalpur Collector Balwant Singh said adding construction of the boundary wall had already been completed.
The 11 KV transmission line, which exited on the land, has been shifted and Sambalpur Development Authority (SDA) has already approved the layout plan of the proposed modern bus terminus, he said.
The civil work for the main bus stand building has already been started and completed up to plinth level, said another senior official.
The proposed modern bus terminus is being developed on 5.28 acres of land along the National highway-6 at Ainthapali area of the city. The project has been estimated at Rs 13 crore, he said.
The construction work began on the land at Ainthapali after the private bus stand of the city, which was operational there, was shifted to a new location for a temporary period in the month of January this year.
The private bus stand of the city had been operational on that piece of land since 1998. As the bus stand was devoid of the basic facilities for the commuters, the district administration had initiated steps for a modern bus terminus at that site this year, he said.
