An official statement said that as per the office order dated October 10, issued by the Ministry of Culture, the resignation of Samson has been accepted by the Government of India with immediate effect.
Samson had submitted her resignation from the post of Chairperson, Sangeet Natak Akademi vide letter dated 5.9.2014 addressed to the Minister of Culture, it added.
The Akademi has been rendered headless after Samson resigned for unknown reasons before her term was supposed to end.
Samson, an eminent Bharatnatyam dancer, was appointed the chairperson of the Akademi in August 2010 for a period of five years.
Her resignation comes at a time when the term of the general council members ended in July, leaving the autonomous body of the Ministry of Culture, only with a few in the Executive Board.
