The big opening by "San Andreas" was the highest-ever for Dwayne in a lead role. It was more than USD 10 million over analysts' projections.
Fifty-one percent of ticket buyers were female and most of them were over the age 25. The Brad Peyton-directed film blew away its opening weekend competitor "Aloha", which was far behind in sixth place for Sony with approximately USD 10 million.
"Tomorrowland" followed behind with approximately USD 13.8 million while "Mad Max: Fury Road" placed No 4 with an estimated USD 13.6 million.
Rounding out the top five in its fifth weekend was "Avengers: Age of Ultron" with approximately USD 10.9 million. The sequel of "The Avengers" earned another USD 17.6 million internationally for a global total of USD 1.32 billion, including USD 225.5 million in China.
