Sanjay Gupta takes over as interim CMD of Konkan Rail Corp

The Railway Board has appointed Sanjay Gupta as the interim Chairman and Managing Director of the Konkan Railway Corporation Limited (KRCL), relieving Bhanu P Tayal from the post.
Tayal, who completed his five years tenure as CMD of Konkan Railway on November 24 this year, was relieved from the job 37 days before attaining the superannuation date on December 31.
Sources in the Konkan Railway said it was for the first time that a top official was relieved before the superannuation date. They said Tayal's predecessor B Rajaram was given an extension for two years.
KRCL chief public relations officer Siddheshwar Telugu said Tayal's contract agreement had clearly stated that his appointment as CMD would be effective either for five years or retirement, whichever comes first.

"Hence the day he completed his five years, he was relieved from the job," the official said.
Sanjay Gupta, who is Director (Operations &Commercial) on Konkan Railway has been entrusted with the Additional Charge of the post of Chairman & Managing Director of Konkan Railway on November 24, KRCL release said.
An officer from Indian Railway Service of Mechanical Engineers (IRSME), Gupta has held key posts and Assignments on the Railways during his 29 years of service.
