Deposing before First Additional Judge (In-Charge) Dandapani, Sharma said the gang attacked Radhakrishnan assuming that he was writing letters in the pseudo name of Somasekhara Ghanapadigal highlighting the alleged irregularities in the Kancheepuram Mutt.
Besides the seer, eleven others are accused in the case relating to the attack on Radhakrishnan at his residence here on September 29, 2002.
He said he knew the letters were indeed written by his father. Citing the attack on Radhakrishnan, he and his mother had then asked his father to stop writing such letters.
Though the prosecution asked the defence to cross-examine the witness, the latter sought an adjournment which was opposed by the public prosecutor.
Judge adjourned the matter to October 22 for further proceedings.
Sankararaman, manager of Sri Varadaraja Perumal temple in Kancheepuram, was murdered on September 3, 2004, allegedly at the instigation of Jayendra Saraswathi. The case is under trial in a court in Puducherry.
