The BJP today blamed the UPA government for attack on Indian national Sarabjit Singh in a Pakistan jail and accused it of failing to build diplomatic pressure for his release despite warnings.
"The attack took place in spite of the fact that the government was cautioned about its possibility. Despite warnings, the UPA government failed to build any diplomatic pressure on Pakistan," BJP state chief Kanwal Sharma said.
He also alleged that the attack on Sarabjit was part of a deep-rooted conspiracy.
Sarabjit, who was lodged in Kot Lakhpat Jail, is battling for life at a Lahore hospital after sustaining grievous injuries in an attack by co-prisoners on April 26.
"Earlier, when an Indian soldier was beheaded by the Pakistani soldiers in the recent past, the Union government had displayed a similar weak and dithering attitude," the BJP leader said.
He extended his party's support to Sarabjit's family in this hour of crisis.
