Ghulam Mohammad Bhat, owing affiliation to ruling National Conference, was shot at by the militants at Bomai in Sopore area, 55 km from here, at around 8 PM, they said here.
Bhat was hit by a bullet in the left arm, they said, adding he was rushed to a hospital where his condition was stated to be out of danger.
Earlier this month, suspected militants gunned down a sarpanch affiliated to the ruling National Conference (NC) in Pulwama district of south Kashmir.
In January, sarpanch Habibullah Mir was shot dead in Sopore township of Baramulla district, prompting Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to order more security to panchayat heads.
