Delhi minister Satyendar Jain has committed to light up the dark spots around metro stations in the city, said an online platform for social change.
In a statement issued by Change.org, the PWD minister is quoted as saying that a survey would be commissioned by the Delhi government with a special focus on the dark spots around DMRC stations.
The action came as city-based architect Bhavya Singh shared her stalking experience near Nehru Place metro station in March and launched a petition on the online platform.
She met Jain at his office yesterday.
I have taken note of Bhavya Singh's campaign regarding the dark spots around metro stations in Delhi. I want to assure that the issue of women safety remains a top priority for our government, the minister was quoted in the statement.
He said the work on lighting up the dark spots within a kilometer radius of metro stations would be expedited.
Nida Hasan, Campaigns Director of Change.org India, said, "We are very excited to have Satyendar Jain, PWD Minister Delhi, as a verified decision maker on Change.org".
