The Supreme Court today dismissed the plea of Rangnath Mishra, who was a minister in the Mayawati government in Uttar Pradesh, seeking quashing of an FIR registered against him for possessing assets more than his known sources of income.
A bench headed by Justice Ranjan Gogoi dismissed the plea of Mishra, who is facing prosecution under various provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act for allegedly possession assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
An FIR was lodged against the former minister in a disproportionate assets case in October, 2012 by the Varanasi unit of anti-corruption bureau.
Earlier, a complaint was lodged against him with Uttar Pradesh Lokayukta accusing him of amassing assets amounting to Rs 1,000 crore illegally.
The Lokayukta had indicted Mishra, following which the state government had ordered a vigilance probe.
