Accused Navin, who was neighbour of victim Uday Kiran, a class VII student, took the boy with him on a motorcycle last evening to a secluded place near a tank at Hayath nagar of the district and it suspected that he strangulated the boy and threw him into the tank, Deputy Commissioner of Police C Ravi Verma, told PTI today.
It seems that Navin wanted to demand ransom from the boy's father, he said.
"The boy probably became suspicious of Navin's activity as he did not take him back even it turned midnight. The boy must have tried to run away, and amid fear Navin allegedly strangulated him," the DCP added.
Navin, however, later himself surrendered before the Saroornagar police and informed them about the incident and claimed that he along with three others had planned to kidnap Kiran for ransom, the officer said.
The boy's body was fished out from the tank this morning.
Navin was arrested along with three others and were interrogated, the DCP said, adding, a case of kidnap, murder under relevant IPC sections has been registered in this regard.
