The condition of three of the children was serious, doctors said.
The incident occurred when the bus was heading towards the school.
Local people said the bus was overloaded and there were nearly 60 children. The driver fled from the spot.
The seriously injured children were taken to a private hospital in Manipal. The others have been admitted to a private hospital in Kundapur.
