A safety review meeting was conducted by SCR General Manager P K Srivastava with principal heads of the departments and the Divisional Railway Managers (DRMs) from the six divisions through video-conferencing at Rail Nilayam here.
At the meeting, the General Manager reviewed safety performance of SCR during period April-November 2014.
The official also took stock of failures of assets related to running of trains such as track, coaches, wagons, signal and telecom gears and electrical equipments etc.
The GM asked officials to take the necessary advance action to prevent rail/weld failures in view of the onset of winter season.
Highlighting the possibility of contraction and generation of stress in tracks in case of a severe drop in temperatures during winter, he instructed the engineering department officials to provide all requisite technical inputs to the track structure, to preempt failures.
Reiterating that safety shall be accorded the utmost priority in train operations, Srivastava advised DRMs to quickly complete enquires into any untoward incidents/accidents and take stringent disciplinary action against the staff found responsible.
"The aim is to hold safety meetings beyond the confines of divisional offices in order to get the pulse of field working conditions related to safety," he said.
