SDMC to conduct mock drills for disaster preparedness

With the national capital reeling under back-to-back tremors due to earthquakes in Nepal, the South Delhi Municipal Corporation is stepping up its disaster preparedness.
South Delhi Mayor Subhash Arya today instructed senior officials regarding strengthening of disaster management system for the city, especially for primary schools of the SDMC.
Arya said in all the 589 primary schools of the civic body, proper disaster management training must be given to all the students and teachers to be prepared for natural disaster like earthquakes.
He said mock drill must be organised in regular manner in all schools and offices. He also asked for fire-fighting equipments to be installed in all the offices and schools and said guidelines in this regard, issued by government and courts must be followed strictly.

Work regarding infrastructure changes like double-doors in class rooms and additional staircase must be constructed on priority, he added.
The Mayor further said that SDMC Disaster Management Centre at Dwarka must be equipped with all the machines and manpower. Mock drills will be organised in all offices, hospitals and schools for disaster management.
Arya today also expressed his grief on the death and destruction in Nepal and India, in the wake of the 7.9 tremblor that shook the Himalayan nation and its neighbouring region on Saturday.
The death toll in the country has climbed to 66 with Bihar reporting the highest casualties.
