The South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) has started setting up of thematic gazebos and garden huts in its medium-sized and major parks, officials today said.
"The aesthetic gazebos with art work will be useful for people of all age groups, including elderly, young students and children, to promote social interactions and recreational activities. They could also be used as rain shelters," the SDMC said.
"It has been decided to install gazebos in at least 600 parks in a phased manner. Initially, 30 medium-sized and major parks have been identified," Standing Committee Chairman of SDMC Shailender Singh Monti said.
"30 garden huts or gazebos will be commissioned within next three months," he said.
Presently, around eight parks have the facility of garden huts but these are lacking proper sitting arrangement and art work, the SDMC said.
"The garden huts have already been commissioned in the parks situated at Green Park extension, Subhash Park RK Puram, Tilak Nagar and Sarvodya Park and others as per the requests received from the respective RWAs," it said.
"The gazebos will have sitting capacity of 15-30 persons. They are being developed with steel and iron pillars. An attractive art work will be visible on the roof, pillars and benches, and sculptures will also be installed in a few gazebos," he said.
