The accused Jyoti Banerjee had demanded a bribe of Rs 3 lakh from SECL operator Tulatam Prajapati for favouring him in a departmental enquiry, an official release said today.
A case was registered by the CBI on a written complaint by Prajapati. The accused had already taken Rs 70,000 from the complainant and demanded remaining Rs 2,30,000.
However, he managed only Rs 1 lakh and as per the plan, CBI sent him to pay the bribe at the officer's residence last night. Soon after the money exchanged hands, CBI officials caught him and seized the amount from his pant's left pocket following which he was arrested, it added.
